This picturesque village is now almost linked with Hawes. Duerley Beck is spanned by an old and narrow bridge and can also be crossed by a ford at a point where ducks and geese are often in evidence. There are two waterfalls, Gayle Force and Aisgill, nearby.

The village of Gayle is living testimony to the Dales' industrial heritage: a community gathered around the textile mill, now a protected building and still housing the world's oldest operational turbine.
